Presentation: The Birds of Loudoun County
Date: April 19, Sunday
Time: 11am - 12pm
Presented by Joe Coleman
Loudoun County’s extensive diversity of natural areas comprised of rich riparian buffers along the Potomac and its tributaries, large upland forests along the Blue Ridge and its other ridges, many farms and meadows, and its occasional park results in an abundant and diverse bird life. Using the extensive information gained from the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy’s five year bird atlas and resultant book, Birds of Loudoun, Joe Coleman, avid birder, will discuss and show slides of some of the 262 species of birds found in Loudoun. He’ll also identify the best spots to find them and discuss what the future likely holds for them.
Joe Coleman is one of the founding members of Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and was instrumental in creating the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve in 1995. He has served as past president of the Virginia Society of Ornithology and as past president of the Board of Directors of the Audubon Naturalist Society. Joe can often be found leading the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy monthly bird walks at Banshee Reeks and at the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship (see loudounwildlife.org for more details).
